Final Project: Childhood Simulation

Our final installation turned out to be prettier than I thought. Jamie, Sally, and I started as the initial plan and then we kept developing our ideas for the installation. We first drew two calendars: one is 2001 representing the past, and one is 2022 representing the present. We then started making the swing from boxes. It was a fun experiment. We cut out boxes to make the swing surface. After that, we wrapped the surface with white paper, and we taped the rope on the swing to make it happen.

Fortunately, the swing was strong enough to put stuffed animals and toys on it. We placed the TV in front of the swing. A snack table is next to the TV. We used light string and balloons to decorate the floor. On the left side, we drew some cartoon characters and hung them on the wall. On the right side, we taped some music sheets on the wall with some books placed under, making it look like a study area.

The "present" space was presented minimally, so that viewers can interact with this blank space, by drawing on to this space or even decorating this space with their own stuff, to describe how they would write their future. We put paper and colored pencils to encourage people to draw and interact with this "present" space.
